Anvils tame the Lions roar

ANVILS TAME THE LIONS ROAR

For the second time in six seasons the Anvils find themselves in the final of the RUR Cup, all this after a tough encounter with a Pagham side who gave it their all, all this being played out on a surface of light snow and a mushy under surface, praise also to the Anvil ground staff who worked hard thro out the morning in getting this game on.

As to the match itself, once the teams had started to accustom themselves to the conditions on and off the pitch, the game swung from end to end with the Lions probably just shading the first 45, with an opening goal thro Joe Shelly, this being negated on 37 with the customary penalty by Oli Lesley being sweetly tucked away, bringing his own league total to 20 for the season.

With the second half kicking toward the Kop End, the odds are usually quite good for more Anvil goals, especially today with the surface being as it was, and defenders struggling, and it wasn't long before before the Anvils went in front when Dan Sullivan took advantage on 65 to put the Anvils in front, this then bought a severe response from the Lions, who upped their attacks to get back into the game, but yet again the Anvil back four were not for turning winning most of the battles on the ground as well as in the air, holding out till the 75th when Kieron Pamment headed home a cross to even up the score at two a piece.

With all supporters possibly dreading the thought of extra time, and with conditions even bad for 'brass monkeys', merciful relief was not far away, when with the clock into 'added time' saviour Sullivan was on hand to notch the winner, all this after a spell of pinball in the Lions Den, to send home support into 'seventh heaven' and a meet with Newhaven in the final!
