ANVILS DOCK NEWHAVEN POINTS

Another valuable three points on the board today, this time against Newhaven in conditions that bought to mind the film 'Ice Station Zebra', okay perhaps one does exaggerate, but it was cold, still even hard to believe amid ones midst was a Docker supporter still wearing his shorts, hardy people these South Coast chappies!

With both sides locked in midtable with games played and points won, a close game was 'on the cards' borne out by a first half in which both sides cancelled each other out, the feared 'Robinsons' were to the fore early on, but astute Anvil defending plus their highline defending gradually negated their threat, whilst at the other end the Anvils also struggled to get a foothold as the HT whistle blew.

Come the Second Half kicking toward the Kop ( always worth a goal or two ) the Anvils got off to a flier on 48 when a freekick was awarded on the edge of the box and central, which was then expertly tucked home by Dan Sullivan, past bemused keeper Jake Buss. 1-0 Anvils.

Play remained fairly even from there on, with both sides having chances, with Kyle Wooven twice striking the woodwork, and sub Michael McCormick missing an open goal for the Dockers, whilst for the Anvils a Nick Sullivan shot trickling so slowly toward the goal line before being hacked clear, however with just 5 remaining it was left to Anvil sub Johan de Meyer to apply the 'coup de grace' ( sorry ) running thro the Dockers open defence to notch that vital second goal, for a win, three points, and a clean sheet, which after todays results propels the Anvils up to tenth in the table, already for the 'big push' in the new year!... Haywards Heath, Peacehaven, Chichester and Eastbourne Town, eat your heart out! %-(

MOM :- Nick Sullivan. Gate :- 64. Wind Chill Factor :- Brrr!
