A BRIDGE TO FAR
Normally these local encounters are of the close and interesting kind, but after a three
week break in 'clicking ones heels', the Anvils were found to be somewhat 'wanting' in
the early stages, all this against a Bridges outfit now heavily sourced with a Bostik /
Not that the Anvils played badly, indeed they more than held their own at times, but if
one thinks of Sussex County ( which it is ) compared to Bostik, their is a massive jump
as most Sussex sides have found in the past, meeting teams / players well versed in
experience as well as the 'dark arts'.
Back to the game, what with being caught 'cold' twice in the first 5 minutes, of which
only one goal counted, the omens didn't look to good, as the Anvils were put under
severe pressure by a side as stated sourced with a certain flavour, but credit to the
Anvils who battled hard thro to halftime with just that single goal deficit.
Come the Second Half and the power and pace of the homesters began to show more
as a three goal, twenty minute burst showed, thereby turning the outcome into a more
A four goal deficit might look a bit harsh on paper, but it wasn't all that one way, with the
Anvils at times more than holding their own, but it was to be that oft quoted phrase the
'final third' that really settled the argument, but as with all clubs one has only a certain
amount of cloth to cut, whilst others have probably that bit more!
