Fantastico at the Haven

Postby Mike May » Wed Sep 26 2018, 16:04

CDG ( 3 ) 3 AFC ( 0 ) 1
A REAL NAIL BITER

A real 'Nail Biter' as the free scoring Anvils exponents of giving away two goal leads, clashed with local and gallant Cup neighbours AFC, in a game that raised passions never really heard of before at the sleepy Haven Centre.

One wondered whether the Uckers might be still suffering from a hangover after their Cup exploits three days previous, whilst the Anvils continued their erratic form of trying to keep ahead of their 'goals against' column.

After the first half hour the Anvils true to form built up their customary two goal lead, and by half time it had increased to a three goal lead, come the second half all Anvil support awaited the customary 'wheels' to come off, and indeed ones expectations were granted with the Uckers on 47 reducing the deficit to just a double, as they began to take over the match as they pinned the Anvils back into their own half, with cross's and goalmouth scrambles the order of the day, but doughty defending and very large slices of luck, as wave after wave of attacks were thwarted, indeed a few cries of 'Remember the Alamo' rent the air, as desperate Anvil defending had 'Row Z' taking a right battering with the ball, but the good ship Haven survived a very rocky half to the bitter end and claim the very vital points.

This match was fantastic to watch as both sides battled thro out to take the points, as they say the 'rub of the green' usually evens itself out over a season, and previous to this match the Anvils have had a few gripes. The Uckers look to be possible challengers for the top table, whilst the Anvils after a struggle to score, now seem to be unable to stop scoring as 18 goals in 9 matches seems to be saying something, I know what it is 'shut that door!!

To my mind, especially after the bombardment in the second half when boots were flying, would be keeper Andy Greaves, are you watching Gareth!!
