CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE ANVIL KIND
On a fixture list that featured just one home victory from a seven match programme, the Anvils were fortunate enough to have 'nailed their colours to the mast', all this after a dour first half that swung from end to end, the Mullets opened up after just 10 mins thro Jarvis, it then took another half hour before the Anvils breached their opponents rearguard thro Cane after a melee in the visitors box.
Level at halftime and now kicking toward the Kop, Anvil support awaited a positive outcome, but the Mullets had obviously not read the script as they went ahead yet again on 55 thro Hawkes all this to much angst amongst the pitiful home support, perhaps this so called angst reached the players ears as suddenly more intensity was added to their play as they started to attack in numbers irrespective of leaving gaps at the back, but this 'living by the sword' paid dividends and on 78 they squared the scoreline with a heavily debated penalty, aptly tucked home by Leslie.
On 82 the Anvils were awarded a freekick ( heavily debated yet again ) from well outside the box, up strode Michael Bell to smash it home past a bemused keeper, Belli himself sliding toward home support to claim the accolades 3-2 Anvils, by now it was the Mullets turn to throw the 'kitchen sink' with long balls and cavalry charges the order of the day, but the Anvil defence was not for turning, even surviving a penalty appeal to which the official gave, but then noticed the linesperson frantically waving his flag for offside, much 'chat' as one can imagine.
Good result for the Anvils which saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, this result sees them move up to 7th in the table, home results are pretty good, but they need to overcome the travel sickness to impose themselves more fully!
