Penalty Taking Goalkeeper

Postby The Railway Man » Fri Aug 29 2008, 18:40

A few seasons ago Sevenoaks Town goalkeeper Craig Clarke was their penalty taker, i think he scored 6 or 7 and didnt miss any.
My question is when the penalty was awarded could the goalie change positions with say the number 5,then take the penalty while no 5 was in goal, then change back again when the ball next went out of play?
I think this would be aloud as i dont think any laws have been broken, any one know for sure ??
Craig didnt do this and luckily he didnt miss, but if the keeper had saved and the team broken away Sevenoaks would have only an out field player covering the goal,if they changed positions then the no 5 could have saved with his hands.

Well, according to the Laws of Football: Law 3 "Changing the Goalkeeper":

Any of the other players may change places with the goalkeeper, provied that:

The referee is informed before the change is made

The change is made during a stoppage in the match.
I still wear suspenders underneath my business suit....
