Pass backs?

Postby davidhammers » Mon Mar 22 2010, 18:04

Are you allowed to pass the ball forwards to your own keeper for him to pick up? Ref we had allowed this because it was not a pass 'back'.

which body parts can you use to pass the ball back with?

No such thing as a "pass back", any pass to a goalkeeper in any direction is not allowed. Punishment being an indirect free kick.
You can head the ball back or chest it back but you cannot manipulate this.
EG flick ball up with foot to head it back...

Hope this helps a little...

Quite right scflfan in what you say provided the keeper picks it up! But it is only a pass to keeper if played with the foot if it is played by the shin, knee or other legal part of the body then that is fine. Point to note though, if the ball is played back and looks like it is going goal bound the keeper can still make a save with his hand, but not be sent of for DOGSO nor I believe cautioned, but we have the indirect free kick!!!

Can the GK stop the ball with his hands but not pick it up or does that still count as a pass back?

The ref must have got it wrong in our game then about the pass forward.

Didn't realise you could knee or shin in back. Worth knowing that you cannot manipulate it though. Cheers for the info.
