Worthing League - Mike Smith Trophy Final

L+S Athletic 2-4 Worthing Leisure

L+S: Jordan Rhodes & Andy Bainbridge.
Leisure: Shane Mott (2) & Stuart Anderson (2).

The Worthing Leagues top two played out a pretty entertaining affair and to be honest there wasnt much in the game. Leisure were fortunate with two of their goals looking suspiciously offside and somehow escaped two strong penalty appeals while L+S were lucky not have had a goal given against them when the ball seemed so far over the line it was almost touching the back of the net.

Leisure went 1-0 up when Mott latched onto a ball behind the defence that the L+S keeper should of reacted to. Within 10 seconds of the restart, a superb passing move saw Sean Russell set-up Rhodes who finished well. Anderson then restored Leisure's advantage but appeared to be several yards offside. L+S enjoyed more attacking possession and should have had a penalty when Nick White was hauled down looking to get on the end of a cross. White have equilsed soon after when Everett spilled a low drive but White missed from inside the 6yd box. Just before half-time L+S defender Dawson appeared to have put the ball in his own net from a long Leisure free-kick but he recovered enough to clear it sufficiently enough for the officials not to award a goal.

In the second half, Anderson scored again when through on goal, despite more protests of offside. An end-to-end game with a lot of passion was back in the balance when Bainbridge netted from range following good work by Adam Wilds but Leisure sealed it with two minutes to go on the break and Mott scored his second.

Leisure deserved winners.
