We took the Crowborough Reserve side to East Grinstead last Tuesday night for what was an excellent game finishing 2-2 with their equaliser coming in the 93rd minute.( although if you read the report on their website you'd think we were lucky to get a point and they were the only " Football" team on show )
It did slightly surprise us just what a good side Grinstead were considering their lowly league positioning, although that may have just been expalined having just read their 1st team report from the FA Vase game on saturday and seen that 9 of the Reserve players were involved in the game with 5 starting.
I know it is the perogative of clubs to field who they wish particuarly in midweek games but please someone tell me just what it achieves and how do the usual reserve players who have to make way for these 1st teamers feel.

County fan ....please please do not be so naive! It has nothing to do with how the reserves feel...This is football, so tough on them!
Needed fitness, implementing tactics or poor performance means first teamers would play in reserve game. This happens at any decent standard on occasion

Jimmy Jay,
Whilst you may have played many games at a " decent standard " I have to assume that you have never been involved in running and sustaining a successful club.
Whilst the first team may be seen as the most important I think you'll find it's often the other sides who generate income and contribute hugely to club spirit.
When the reserve players choose to leave in search of regular football and you can then no longer field two sides where does that leave the sustainabilty of the club.

county fan..
your assumptions although are your opinion..fatally wrong
please dont go there regarding my experience.
If you read my statement properly you would have read that I said "on occasion" these things must happen...
Would really like to know of clubs that have the best reserve teams and their first teams struggle year in year out.
Its no good keeping everyone happy if the team in "Q" eg. East Grinstead get relegated is it!??

Yes we did give a few players a run out in the Reserves for the Crowborough game. However like most clubs we have a number of players are on the fringe of the first team / reserves. Having discussed this very matter with the Crowborough Manager agter the game; he would very much like to have this situation at Crowborough - apparently your first team are a club within in a club and do not even consider playing for their reserves. I feel sorry for the Crowborough Reserve team players; they are very good and young but are not getting the opportunity to progress within their club.
