I'm falling out of love with football!!!

Postby kay weller » Sat Feb 06 2016, 23:02

I'm finding it harder every week, less players, less involvement, no commitment, personally I'm not enjoying the great game! It's a sad state of affairs but the truth is, the players don't appreciate what makes a club work!
Right now I'm more than happy to hang up my boots (apron, licensee, pot wash, tea maker, changing room cleaner ) just to be set free ,

Welcome to my world a decade ago. No more stress, no more worrying about this and that. Hang your boots up Kay, done your bit for the community!

Don't blame you Kay. The time and effort you and Gav have given over the years doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves. If you do decide to walk away you can do so with your head held high.

Without doubt the club would struggle to survive 6 months without you!

3 off at the weekend, few people lose their heads?!

Hullo Kay

Obviously i don't know you or the club you did represent, but sorry to read your thoughts of 'calling it a day', as stated one doesn't know the whole story ( remains within club walls as it should ).

But hopefully after a break and the start of another season you will have regained that hunger for the game once more, we've probably all had similar thoughts during the course of season (s), but in the back of ones mind there's always been the niggle of that rapidly shrinkage of backroom staff shrinking even further, anyhow what else would we all do on a Saturday afternoon (better than shopping)?

So hears to seeing you on the circuit next season Kay!

Please don't give up, ever, don't let the bastards grind you down.

I won't and after several years of thinking the same I'm in a pretty good place right now, footy wise, funnily enough winning seems to cure a lot, your effort will be rewarded again before it's time to call it a day and you and Gav are inspirational still!

Do not read anything that moron Jeff writes, he lives in another world.

It happened to me as well.
I would imagine it is like getting a divorce.Even though I've never been divorced.
No matter how much you love something. If you feel unappreciated. You are bored. You can't see anything happening that hasn't happened before.Everything has become habit.
It is time for a split.
I was amazed at how many other things there are to do away from football.
Those of us of a certain age, never minded giving more than we got back from the game.
All we wanted was a pat on the back now and then.
Watching money take precedence over pride for your club.Whether you wear the shirt or make the sarnies, eventually wore me down.
I started to resent things and I got out at the right time for me.
Good luck.Whatever you decide.
I still haven't found what I'm looking for!

Been there, Kay. So I decided to become- for want of a better word- a nomad. A different ground every week if I like, and in the main I have a ball, meet lots of lovely people, see some fabulous football, and never stay in one place for long enough to be taken for granted. And if I go somewhere that isn't overly welcoming, I just don't write about them and don't go back.

I know that wouldn't work for everybody- I wasn't sure it'd work for me- but it's given me back my love of the game. We are blessed with some fabulous clubs in Sussex, and some wonderful people; special mentions to Lewes, Hassocks, Lancing, Crowborough, Newhaven, Haywards Heath, St Francis Rangers, Arundel, Whitehawk, (whilst I don't like their business model I love their fans), Eastbourne Town, Burgess Hill, Worthing, Hastings Utd...

So if you've lost your love for your current location, go and see the Sussex world. I've had a wonderful time and rediscovered my positivity.

That's the thing, it isn't a Sussex world (with a few extras). It's a pretty pointless arbitrary chunk of the south east world with a nondescript name and suddenly no identity. For the winner there's a chance to go into another similarly pointless league that means you lose more money and have to play far too many games that you can't get to without time off work.

Thank you pr1cks at the FA (the one in particular).

At least the teams haven't had to change names to something pathetic like "Blues" or "Dragons".

Football as we knew it, when it meant something good is now confined to a few clubs in the bottom half (generally) of the premier down to (at best) the Southern/Northern Premier plus the Vase and the Trophy which have retained a fair degree of their magic.
