ADDED TIME!

Postby jamiecrellin » Mon Sep 08 2008, 07:12

Just a quick question , we are in the 89th minute of play and there is no stoppage time atm , so 1 minute left to play , a player then goes down with a bad injury for 8 minutes, how many mintues of stoppage time would there be , 1 or 8? and why ? because if there is 8 then u play a total of 107 ?

Just one minute is to be added on from when the game restarts.

i liked that question. anyone remember Billy the Fish? I recall that when Fulchester Utd supremo Tommy Brown required triple by-pass surgery in the last minute of a cup tie, it meant that over five hours injury time had to be played.

marvellous.

This is a real corker. There is no such thing as added time or injury time, this is a phrase that was made by the media donkeys years ago. What has happened is that FIFA have responded for once in a sensible manner and made it easy for all to understand by allowing the 4th official to put up a board etc. However, all he is doing is indicating how long is left during the 90 minutes. The ref has two watches one that he stops for injuries and other time taken out of the game, and one that he leaves running. This is the one that we see on the TV etc (although not the ref's watch) as they do not know when the ref stops and restarts his watch.

Should this not be 45 minutes?
