Ive got one for my colleagues out there.

The fuss about undershirts and undershrts has been done to death.

What about the new trend of players wearing white "ankle" socks over their socks?

a) Why do they do that? Can't they wear the short white ones under their socks to gain the same effect, whatever the effect is, (Protection?)

b) Some players actually do wear them underneath but cut the bottoms off their long socks to reveal the white socks. Whats that all about

Is it actually, like wearing the wrong coloured undershorts, against the laws?

I did see that the other day but i'm not sure to be honest. i dont think the laws say anything about socks? but not sure. sorry could not be much more help stringz?

There is no law as yet regarding this but I suspect that it will happen. I would consider just being cautious at the moment. However, I would suggest that if the socks that have been taped or whatever and do cause a colour clash with the predominant colour of the socks of the opponents you have the option to ask them to remove or colour them. But be mindful of the following phrase from Law 4- A player may use equipment other than the basic equipment provided that its
sole purpose is to protect him physically and it poses no danger to him or any other player.
also from law 4: The two teams must wear colours that distinguish them from each other
and also the referee and the assistant referees.

As I say a bit of grey area at the moment just use your common sense on the day.

i was glad that a player was wearing his white socks over the top of his club socks the other sunday.
as he "dived " in the area jumped up and claiming a penalty shouting out
" the player took my ankle away from me !! "...... it wasnt till i pulled him aside and pointed to his still brilliant whitye socks and i said to him " where abouts on your ankle mate " he just looked down and grinned........ i booked him for simulation .........very funny moment .........
