England Vs Croatia - Your team?

Postby its only a game » Mon Nov 19 2007, 12:06

OK gents as we are all closet England Mgrs. Its a vital game at Wembley, against the top team in the group. Who would make your starting 11 given our injury list etc. Here is mine

1 Carson
2. Brown
3. Bridge
4. Richards
5. Campbell
6. Hargreaves
7. Beckham
8. Gerrard
9. Crouch
10. Defoe
11. J Cole

SWP, Robinson, A Cole, Smith, P Neville, Lampard, Barry, Lescott on the bench.

Think it will be a draw as well. Which will do us.

its only a game

What an awfully lightweight squad we have to choose from. Incidentally where is Rio? I thought he only had a one match ban??

----------------Carson------------------

Brown---------Campbell--------Richards-------Bridge

Gerrard-------Barry--------Lampard----------A Young

----------------Crouch-----D Bent----------------------

Subs - Beckham, J Cole, A Cole, Smith, P Neville, Lescott, Robinson, Hargreaves.

Beckham was so bad the other night I just wouldnt play him - you have to play players who are in form - every free kick and corner kept hitting the first defender - Play Gerrard out right which will allow us to play Barry who was good again when he came on. Lampard is in the best form for a while so has to play - Hargreaves seems to at present stumble from one injury to another so I wouldnt play him for that reason. Wes Brown is a better option at right back than Lescott at centre half. Peter Crouch is our only real threat upfront without Rooney and Owen and despite what people say about Crouch he does score goals. Some argue against international minnows but Croatia are hardly an international force and we should beat them in our own backyard especially considering as they've qualified.

Jermaine Defoe needs to play regular football somewhere rather than the odd fleeting appearance in the Carling or UEFA Cup. What has Jermaine Defoe done in the last 12 months of football to even be considered playing for England??? Theo Walcott has been far more impressive for Arsenal than Defoe has for Spurs.

I know Joe Cole will play as McClaren wont play Young as he is inexperienced for such a big game.

That would be my team - Cole has played up front for Cheslea on occasions off Drogba and done well, and at least all of the above team are playing regular football for their clubs at present. Lampard has to play, he's the from player in the Premiership in the last month. Gerrard is a great option out wide, and that enables the Impressive Barry to play also.

Did he play our previous tournament game then? Guess he must have.

This would be my team. I agree with LZ that Joe Cole can play behind the front man and do well there. The other strikers in the squad are just not up to it. I thought Lampard played well on Friday but also feel Barry deserves to play after recent good performances.

On the Beckham front - he still has something to offer this side and is still a threat at set pieces. I like Ashley Young though and would like to see him get a decent run out in a meaningful game to see what he can do.

How many more games are you lot going to select BECKHAM

It must be a sympathy vote, let the bloke get his hundred caps, call him a hero and love him till he dies, say his one of Englands best ever players.

All I can say is, bugger off back to the USA, take all your millions and your poxy wife.

Thanks, but no thanks

Where to start on this one. In my opinion any one that turns down the opportunity to represent his country at any level, forfeits the right to be chosen again. Anyway the poor boy might be tired.

Have you been asleep the past few months ??

Peter Crouch needs balls delivered into the box, he is (IMO) the best crosser of the ball in the world, simple really.

what a load of b#llocks! he hasnt played the last couple of games due to injury and most of the games he played before that he has been one of our best players! he came back into the side and set up 3 goals in 2 games, in games like this against croatia we need a bit of experience and with owen terry rooney and ferdinand out we need a player like beckham even more so as crouch will probaly play alone up front and is hardly one to run at defenders so top notch balls into the box for him to get on the end of are what we need and for that there is nobody better than beckham! as well as ashley young has played recently i think its too much to chuck him into the side on wednesday in arguably one of the biggest games we've played in years! for me its:-

1. Scott Carson
2. Micah Richards
3. Wayne Bridge
4. Steven Gerrard
5. Sol Campbell
6. John Terry
7. David Beckham
8. Frank Lampard
9. Peter Crouch
10. Gareth Barry
11. Ashley Young

4-5-1, Gerrard just behind Crouch!

John, how you can slate Beckham like that is mystifying? he is still the best crosser of the ball in the whole world!!! even if he only lasts 60 minutes, we would see more quality deliverys in that hour onto the beanpole crouch than you would ever see from SWP!!!
Ashley Young for me has been a revelation down the left, and his pace and trickery is a joy to watch, and i think he would really give us a new dimension down the left, that i i dont rate Joe Cole!

I would also rather Terry played, died for the cause, and got us threw, a 20% fit or whatever he is now JT is certainly better than Jolean Lescott, and im not a huge fan of Richards in the middle with Wes Brown at RB, thats just me though.

JT at 3 and 6!!

I am sure he would have to be a bit more than 20% fit to play in 2 positions

Christopher Lee, hes good with crosses,

So, you mean to tell me that he,s only in the side because he can put crosses over and no-one else can do that, you are aving a laugh, the Crutch, Crouch can,t head the ball anyway.

You,ll be telling me next, that Steve Bruce should be in the middle because he can head the ball properly.

your all mad
