Peche Hill Select 2 - 3 Ore Athletic
Peche showed some surprises in their team selection with Asher Grindle and Steve Johnson named on the bench and Matt McLean starting due to the Eastbourne Town game being called off. Ore were missing Tom Youngman and Martin Richardson, which meant that Dan Antink got an immediate start on his latest return to the club. Peche started the game well but Ore looked the more menacing on the break and it was no surprise that Grant Cornelius opened the scoring midway through the half converting a fine cross from Luke Towner. Ore then proceeded to miss several chances to extend their lead, and thanks to several good saves from Luke Willis in the Peche goal, half-time arrived with the score remaining one nil. Second half was more of the same, and then after 10 minutes Peche made their first change and their substitute found himself sent off without touching the ball as a late lunge on the Ore keeper, left Harry Cawkill with a broken leg and the Peche player heading back to the changing rooms. After a delay of half an hour the game resumed and Orlando Correia got a deserved second goal after good work from Terry Payne to increase Ore's lead. This was quickly followed by another goal for Grant Cornelius again finishing off good work from Terry Payne. Ore now appeared to be coasting to victory but a soft penalty awarded to Peche gave their skipper Ash O'Prey the chance to open their account which he duly did, and then shortly afterwards Matt McLean headed a second to set up a nail biting conclusion to the game, but Ore managed to see the game out without conceding further. Special thanks to Heath West from Peche who displayed his para-medic skills to the injured Ore keeper, until his on-duty colleagues arrived to deal with the situation.
That makes seven league wins on the trot for Ore and next up is a clash with Social who chalked up their eleventh league win on the bounce with a 4-2 victory over Rock's. Promises to be some game next Saturday !
