Sidley United 3 - 1 Crowhurst - ESFL Division One
Sidley United picked up their first league win of the season as they saw off a competitive Crowhurst outfit with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes.
Crowhurst began the stronger and Sidley goalkeeper Joe Rogers had to make a good save with his feet within the first 20 minutes.
But after weathering the early pressure Sidley gradually began to get a foothold in the match and came closest when Chris Copley's header from a corner cannoned off the post before being cleared.
And as Sidley continued to press, they were rewarded right on half time. A neat move involving Corke and Scrase saw the ball laid off to Sam Thompson who struck a powerful low shot which went in off the post to give Sidley a half time lead.
The second half saw Crowhurst again beginning to exert some pressure but it took until the 72nd minute for them to break through when a shot from the edge of the area from Karl Tomlin beat Rogers and brought the scores level.
At that stage the game was finely balanced with both sides looking to try and get the next goal but it was Sidley who notched in the 83rd minute when Ashley Elphick was played in and he steered a low shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner to restore Sidley's lead.
And things got even better for the home side just 2 minutes later as a good move saw Elphick in the area and he unselfishly squared across goal for Arron Scrase to tap home.
Those late goals were enough to see off the Crowhurst challenge and Sidley took the 3 points to maintain a strong start to the season.
