VILLAGERS TOO HOT TO HANDLE
Smallfield edged ever nearer to the runners up spot after a comprehensive win over fellow aspirants Cuckfield Rangers at a blustery then later gloomy ( game starting late ) Plough Road.
After an even first half in which the homesters took up the early running with a Josh Howell goal on 30, but were then pushed onto the backfoot when the Rangers started to up the tempo and no suprise equalised themselves on 40 to bring the half to an end all square. HT 1-1.
With the homesters kicking toward the Plough Road end, play started to turn the Villagers way with two further goals thro Ryan Pearson ( 50 ) and Tom Tennent ( 55 ), this then setting the tone for the rest of the half as the Villagers pushed the Rangers back onto the defensive as Jamie Liddells pace on the right flank backed up with Ryan Pearsons power play thro the the middle led the Rangers back line a merry dance, only suprise was the fact that no further goals were scored, as the Villagers then seemed to treat the game as a training exercise with time to stroll around and pass the ball amongst themselves, even allowing the luxury of keeper Zach Rice to stroll up for a last second corner amidst the gathering gloom that by now had descended.
For the Villagers they always looked solid at the back, with Rice always their mop up the odd ball that got thro, whilst the midfield played with energy thro out, whilst upfront Liddell and Pearson formed a deadly partnership of pace and power to stretch the opposition thro out.....FT 3-1 Smallfield..
